The Kingstree Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) consists of seven members appointed by Town Council to serve four year terms. The Board of Zoning Appeals shall hear and decide appeals when it is alleged that there is error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by the Planning Director or Code Enforcement Officer in the enforcement of the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance. The BZA may grant special exceptions for uses that requires review and approval on a case-by-case basis to ensure secondary impacts do not adversely impact traffic; vehicle and pedestrian safety; adjoining property in terms of noise, lights, fumes, and air flow; the aesthetic character of the environs; and the orientation and spacing of buildings. The BZA may grant a variance on certain provisions or regulations of the Zoning Ordinance which may not result in unnecessary hardship to site design issues such as tree protection, landscape and buffer requirements. The BZA meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.
